Fun & Funds from the Friendly Hills Women's Golf Association

July 14, 2026

On June 23, the incredible ladies of the Friendly Hills CC Women's Golf Association hosted a member-guest tournament at Friendly Hills CC to raise funds in support the Long Drive for Girls Golf, an SCGA Junior Golf Foundation initiative to empower girls to thrive on and beyond the course. 143 ladies, all dressed in at least one article of pink clothing, gathered for a fun tournament, live performance of the national anthem, delicious lunch and exciting raffle. In total, over $22,000 was raised from this event to support girls golf! The dollars raised will be used to reach more girls through the game of golf. Thank you to the Friendly Hills CC Women's Golf Association, the entire FHCC team, all the participants and the many great sponsors who made the day possible.

A special highlight from the day was a surprise video message from LPGA Tour Player Briana Chacon! Brianna's father is a member of FHCC and she grew up playing the course, along with other private and public courses in the Whittier area. After a stellar career at the University of Oregon, Chacon has three Epson Tour victories and has joined the LPGA Tour this year.

In her message, Chacon spoke to the power of the Long Drive for Girls Golf and how this initiative empowered her to be more confident as a junior golfer. She is one of hundreds of girls the SCGA Junior Golf Foundation has supported through on-course access and post-secondary scholarships. Each year, a Deb Long Scholarship is awarded. Deb Long was an SCGA team member, lifelong golfer and advocate for women and girls in golf. This scholarship is awarded to a young woman who will honor Deb’s memory by pursuing higher education with the intent to give back to her community. The awardee has a passion not only for her golf game but also for the growth of the game and she aspires to lead others.
